There are actually funny things to do while playing World of Warcraft, and I am not speaking about the Burning Crusade expansion.
Walk along the Deeprun Tram. The Tram is a free ride linking Stormwind and Ironforge, and you have taken it a lot for sure, but have you ever wondered about the pathway that runs all along? I have taken it once, following the rightmost path starting from Ironforge. It is actually very boring and waypoints repeat themselves, but not a very long run.
Swim along the coast from Westfall to Menethil Bay. I had this idea after seeing in some Easter eggs webpage that there is a secret location on the coast called “Newman’s Landing”. I half-swam, half-ran there. Swimming for long periods of time in the ocean causes fatigue, which after a while makes you lose health points, so you had better run on land whenever you can. This part is quite boring and takes a lot of time, and the land just repeats itself so many times ((it is that part of the map where nobody goes, and Blizzard developers may just have put some standard landscape element that can repeat itself, while preventing the player from climbing the mountain too easily)). Also don’t try to go very far up the mountains, it’s no use; just follow the ocean. The landing itself is a ruin. Seeing that I was halfway through to Menethil Bay, I continued swimming, until I came across murlocs — something totally unexpected (I think I died, they were too powerful for me).
Visit the hidden Dwarf airport in Dun Morogh. I went there during a guild birthday party, and came back very recently. It’s a bit hard to get there as there is a non-trivial path somewhere in Loch Modan close to the North Pass Gate leading to Dun Morogh, and involves some trial-and-error walking in the mountain (and you can die too if you jump from too high sometimes — if you’re in a group, it’s good to have rezzers). After that, it’s a very cool place to visit. Beware of the trolls, they are for real and will attack you if you get too close! You can kill them and get some small loot, though, mostly coins.
Most of my discoveries are quite enjoyable. Right now, I am getting back into killing mobs and doing quests, as this is a good and fast way to get experience anyway, and this in turn allows me to discover new areas. What I was doing before was just idling around Stormwind and making runs into well known areas where I didn’t risk to be killed as much. That, and a surprising lack of complete addiction to the game, explains why my main character is only level 25 after I started playing 13 months ago!
